Our Sustainability Policy
Dublin Convention Bureau (DCB) is passionate about caring for the world we live in. Through every element of our work, we strive towards realising our vision for a sustainable and thriving MICE Industry in Dublin.
Our Vision is a regenerative, responsible, and just MICE Industry in Dublin.
DCB endeavours to work in partnership with our key stakeholders, our ‘Value Network’, to make this vision a reality. Our Value Network comprises of our clients, visitors, industry partners, local community, colleagues and other state agencies and companies.
Across this network, DCB facilitates and promotes collective action for a regenerative, profitable, and inclusive business tourism industry in Dublin. Our work aims to deliver an incremental and sustainable increase in business tourist revenue for the city, while sustaining attractive tourism employment across the region.
We endeavour to do our utmost to support clients in hosting sustainable events in the region, while simultaneously supporting our MICE industry partners in fulfilling their own commitments to visitor, community, and climate. DCB commits to supporting our industry with relevant training and events, as identified in this regard.
We actively support the implementation of the Irish Government’s Climate Action Plan (2019), the work of the Government’s Sustainable Tourism Working Group and Fáilte Ireland’s strategic efforts (2021-2023 Survive to Thrive) in ‘Reducing the Carbon Footprint of the Tourism Sector’.
We also recognise the need to lead the way through tangible actions of our own. We have partnered with relevant bodies to launch a range of CSR initiatives to engage international visitors in activities that focus on issues such as Food Waste (UNSDG 2), Accessibility (UNSDG 9) and Plastic Ocean Pollution (UNSDG 14). Our offices, marketing collateral and design suppliers are all certified with ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management Systems), and we have begun phasing out old physical collateral in favour of more environmentally friendly alternatives. Our printing and merchandise provider maintains a diligent sustainable procurement and consumption policy, with FSC and EcoVadis certification.
DCB has participated in the Global Destination Sustainability Index since 2017. Our progress is benchmarked every year against other regions, and we continually review our efforts and commit to improving our performance year-on-year.
In 2021, DCB began working in consultation and partnership with the Global Destination Sustainability Movement to develop a bespoke Sustainability and Impact Strategy for the Region’s MICE industry. At the core of this strategy, there will be a focus on 6 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) which we have identified as particularly relevant to the Dublin region:
- SDG No.8. Decent Work and Economic Growth
- SDG No.11. Sustainable Cities and Communities
- SDG No.12. Responsible Consumption and Production
- SDG No.13. Climate Action
- SDG No.14. Life Below Water
- SDG No.15. Life on Land
This strategy will further expand on our vision for the future and will outline how Dublin Convention Bureau aims to work in the spirit of collaboration and partnership across our entire Value Network to make this bold vision a reality.
